The science of beauty

In recent years, skincare has become a less frivolous and more serious business. With almost any information imaginable at their fingertips, consumers are educating themselves and adopting an investigative approach to their skincare. Gone are the days when they blindly bought whatever product someone behind a counter or an advert in a magazine told them to. As a result, scientific skincare is on the rise.

Here at BIOEFFECT, science and beauty have always gone hand-in-hand. We are driven by our scientific approach, specifically our biotech approach, to skincare. We are the first brand in the world to bioengineer a plant-based human replica of EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) in barley and use it in skincare. Our biotech roots are what differentiates us from most of the competition.

Today, consumers understand the difference between antioxidants, AHAs and retinoids, and can make informed choices about what their skin needs. One of the advantages of scientific skincare is that ingredients have been thoroughly tried and tested as well as having a specific, proven effect on the skin. BIOEFFECT’s star ingredient is of course EGF, a protein in human skin that signals cells to boost collagen and elastin production to maintain healthy, dense, and youthful skin. Being plant-based makes it uniquely pure and stable.

But even though the ingredients are safe and effective, there is the underlying question whether our skin really needs so many chemicals. In fact, studies have shown that people are on average exposed to over 120 chemicals each day from cosmetics alone. From the very beginning BIOEFFECT has followed the simple principle to use few ingredients. Our award-winning BIOEFFECT EGF Serum, for example, is made of only seven ingredients and we know the precise virtue, function and necessity of each. Sometimes, less is more.

Another benefit of scientific skincare is the fact product efficacy is usually confirmed or proven through studies. BIOEFFECT has done more than 40 in-house studies and we pride ourselves on the fact that we don’t rely on the self-assessment studies that are so prevalent in the skincare industry. Most of our studies are double-blinded placebo-controlled efficacy studies with research periods ranging from 2 months up to 3 years. The results of the studies clearly show that topical application of growth factors have a powerful effect on skin rejuvenation processes. Our efficacy studies are also backed up by independent studies conducted by scientists, such as Dr. Moy, a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, former President of the American Academy of Dermatology and a professor of Dermatology at UCLA, and Dr. Kerscher, professor of Cosmetic Science at the University of Hamburg and a world-renowned expert on dermatology.

It is no wonder that BIOEFFECT customers regularly describe our products as skincare that really works.
