BIOEFFECT – The Best European Biotechnology Product in 2013

The Icelandic skin care line BIOEFFECT was chosen this year’s Best Biotechnology Product in Europe at the European Biotechnology Congress in Bratislava last week. The awards are given in recognition of distinguished contribution to the European Biotechnology Industry, by a small or medium sized European company.

The European Biotechnology Congress is held annually by the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association (EBTNA); the leading organization of biotechnology professionals in Europe. The non-profit Association was inaugurated in 1996 to promote the biotechnology industry in Europe through education, communication, consultation and training.

BIOEFFECT skin care products are the world’s first to contain human-like cellular activators made in plants

Based on 10 years of biotechnology research, the BIOEFFECT skin care products are the world’s first to contain human-like cellular activators made in plants. They contain EGF cellular activators which are natural to human skin and signal the skin to speed up its renewal process and rejuvenate its complexion. To produce the EGF in barley plants, BIOEFFECT‘s scientists copied the EGF gene from human skin into barley. The resulting barley plants are capable of producing human-like EGF which is used in the BIOEFFECT skin care products.

The barley is cultivated in volcanic pumice and watered with pure spring water in state-of-the-art greenhouses in Iceland, using renewable underground volcanic energy for heating and lighting. This patent-pending green biotechnology bypasses the risk of including bacterial endotoxins associated with conventional production of EGF cellular activator in bacteria. It ensures that the BIOEFFECT products contain EGF of maximum purity, activity and stability.
